Bodleian iSkills for the Medical Sciences Division and OUH staff: Introduction to Endnote

Do you need help managing your references? Do you need help citing references in your documents? This online session will introduce you to Endnote X9, which can help you to store, organise and retrieve your references and PDFs, as well as cite references in documents and create bibliographies quickly and easily.


  • understand what Endnote is and what it can do for you
  • import references from PubMed
  • import references directly from a database such as Ovid Embase
  • import references from Google Scholar
  • manage PDFs
  • deduplicate references in an Endnote Library
  • create a bibliography
  • cite references in Word documents

Intended Audience:   Postgraduate students, researchers and university and OUH staff based on the Old Road Campus or in Medical Sciences Division departments elsewhere in Headington - this session is specifically planned for the Medical Sciences and will not be appropriate for other subject areas.  For other subject areas, please see our LibGuide page Managing your references: EndNote and EndNote Online for online tutorials and help.

Dates and booking:

Online booking requires your SSO (Oxford University Single Sign On).  However, if you are an OUH staff member and do not have an SSO you may book by emailing directly from your OUH email address - make sure you give us the title(s) and date(s) of any workshops you want to book onto!

Format:  Online presentation through Microsoft Teams, with practical exercises

What you will need: 

1. You will need to have an EndNote account set up: to create an account

2. You will need to have downloaded EndNote Desktop to your desktop: to download the software for free (UofOx staff and students) to buy EndNote for OUH staff (if you don’t want to pay, please consider using Mendeley instead. We run these courses for Mendeley too)

3.To attend the session you will need to have the Microsoft Teams desktop app installed, or log in with a browser (must be Chrome or Edge). Please read our guidance notes below on using Teams.  You will need a speaker and microphone for listening and speaking. You need to be online with a reliable internet connection.
