Bodleian iSkills: Archives and Modern Papers for Social Sciences and History

The Bodleian's Weston Library has a wealth of resources covering almost all aspects of modern British society and culture. This session will introduce key finding aids and get you started with the research skills needed to make the most of these resources.You will have an opportunity in the session to handle some actual examples.

Subjects to be covered include:

  • Identifying relevant material in Oxford and elsewhere
  • Considerations when working with archival material
  • Types of archives and modern papers
  • How to find out more

Intended Audience:  Students, researchers and other Bodleian Libraries' readers considering using modern papers and archives in social science or historical research.

What you will need? No computer is needed. You can bring your own device for note-taking. If you want to connect to wi-fi, please read our guidance first.

For access to the Horton Room in the Weston Library: 

  • Enter through the Reader Entrance on Parks Road.  Click here for a plan of the Weston
  • You will need your Bodleian Reader's card to get through the automated gate
  • You will not be allowed to take bags through - only notebooks/laptops and pencils (not pens) are allowed
  • Food and drink, including bottled water, is not allowed
  • If you wish to leave anything in the lockers, you will need £1 coin deposit
