Anthropology: Databases

A guide to resources for anthropologists at Oxford.

Bibliographic databases

Bibliographical databases are the best tools for locating journal articles, book reviews, collections of essays and conference proceedings even if you don’t know the authors or article title.  Each database covers 1000s of journal titles.  Each individual journal article is described in a systematic way, meaning you can cross search large numbers of articles to find the information you are interested in.

You can find information about the databases we subscribe to in SOLO or in Databases A-Z.

Key databases

Citation searching

As well as journal article information some databases also hold citation information. You can therefore find out which articles and authors have been most heavily cited, and for an individual article you see how often its been cited, which papers have cited it and which papers it cites.
