A – Facebook’s hate speech problem
Facebook has recently come under scrutiny over its processes, including the balance between automated (e.g. AI) and human approaches, for dealing with hate speech on its platform. Criticism has culminated in the #StopHateForProfit campaign and an advertising boycott by some blue-chip clients. As a result, Facebook has experienced a loss of revenues, a drop in share price, and employee dissent. The company's share price has fallen, and risk exposure has increased. You are advising CEO and controlling shareholder Mark Zuckerberg on how to address the operational, organisational and accounting challenges related to the company’s process of dealing with hate speech.

The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted global travel and plunged airlines into deep crises. Like many of its competitors, British Airways has experienced a large decline in passenger numbers, and an unprecedented introduction of new processes to comply with varying restrictions and regulations across the globe. Amid intense negotiations with staff and unions, the airline has announced significant layoffs, extensive pay-cuts, and the retiring of parts of its fleet in an attempt to maintain profitability. At the same time, the firm remains accountable to stakeholders for its commitment to the goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
