Purpose of this guide

This guide is intended for students and researchers studying the law and legal system of Scotland the University of Oxford, although students and researchers from any field may find it useful.

Use this guide to find out about sources and commentary for Scottish law, including ebooks, ejournals, and databases.

Holders of an Oxford SSO will discover that both Westlaw UK (which has eg the current edition of Gloag & Henderson: The Law of Scotland) and LexisLibrary have specifically Scottish sources.

The remaining links are to sources on the free web.

The Bodleian Law Library's current collection of printed monographs on Scottish law, Scottish law report series, and Scottish law journals are shelved on Level 2.

Historic version (ie unamended) versions of the legislation of Scottish parliaments (pre Union and post devolution) are on Level 1. 

Commentary on the law of Scotland (textbooks, monographs etc) has shelf marks beginning K - KN. For many legal topics, texts relating specifically to Scotland will be identified by .S3  (or SCT) in the third line of the shelf mark. eg KM.500.S3.CUB 2016  is the shelf mark for works on Scottish criminal law.
