Purpose of this guide

This guide is intended for students and researchers studying labour law at the University of Oxford, although students and researchers from any field may find it useful.

Use this guide to find out about sources and commentary for labour and employment law, including ebooks, ejournals, and databases.

Halsbury's Laws is an authoritative encyclopaedia of law in the England and Wales. Volumes 39 to 41 of the 5th edition of Halsbury will give you an  overview of English employment law, while the footnotes will direct you to the most important cases, legislation and commentary in that area. (Use the Cumulative Supplement to check for any new developments in the law since the volume was printed.)

The print volumes of Halsbury's Laws are at KZ1 in the main Reading Room on Floor 2. (Holders of an Oxford SSO are reminded that they can consult Halsbury's online via Lexis®Library.)

The collection of textbooks and monographs on English employment law is also on Floor 2, with shelfmarks between KN190 and KN198. (Click on the tab Books above for more detail about classification.Click on appropriate tab if you are interestedi n EU or non UK law)

To do a subject search in SOLO: Labor laws and legislation (The spelling is thus because we use Library of Congress Subject Headings)

Law Library: Reserve Collection

When you search SOLO for texts you may find - especially if the text is recommended on a Reading List - that the location is shown as "Law Library Reserve Collection."  Armed with your University Card/Reader's Ticket, pLease ask for these books at the Enquiry Desk & they will be issued to you for use in the Library.
