Purpose of this guide

This guide is intended for students and researchers of education or applied linguistics at the University of Oxford, although students and researchers from any field may find it useful.

Use this guide to find out about how to search for relevant literature for education or applied linguistics and to find tips and answers to interesting questions we have been asked recently.

Key databases

Oxford subscribes to many bibliographic databases. They can be used to locate journal articles, conference proceedings, books, data and more. You can find some of the key databases for education and applied linguistics below, but take a look at the databases page of this guide for more titles.

Theses

If you are writing an MSc thesis/dissertation it is a good idea to look at previous theses and see how they are laid out and structured. In general, there are several good sources for doctoral theses online. For help searching SOLO and external collections of theses, see the theses page of this guide.

Research support

The research support pages for this guide cover a few different topics to help students and academic staff with their research.

The library staff are also available for one-to-one tutorials to look at your topic and literature searching together - just email education.library@bodleian.ox.ac.uk to arrange one.
