Frequently asked questions:

What do students need to do to join the library?

Complete a registration form as fully as possible (particularly noting the end of their placement dates). Forms are available online at http://bit.ly/LibRegister. A Trust identification badge is also required.

What facilities are available?

Students have full rights to the library.

It is possible to borrow up to ten books, including two seven day loan books.

Fines are charged for late books; 25p per day for 28 day loan books and 50p per day for seven day loan books.

We do send pre- and post- due date reminders by email, so an up to date email address is required.

We have the typical book collection for an NHS library, but we also have a small fiction collection.

The library is mostly open plan but there is an additional computer room (10 PCs in total) that can be used for quiet space.

We will chase people for unreturned books (a reminder email is sent two days before the book is due, and then three further emails are sent after the book is due). We will do our best to contact users to get books back, but after a certain length of time we will send out invoices via our finance department for the cost of the book(s), fines, and a £15 administration fee. That said, I feel that we are quite friendly and approachable - please do not hesitate to contact us for anything you might need.

Is there an Inter Library Loan Service?

Yes. ILLs are free unless we need to go to the British Library, in which case we charge what the BLDSC charge us, i.e. £8.95 per article or £12.05 per book (although we may decline to approach the BLDSC if the student is about to return to Oxford).

What computing facilities are available?

All computers are available for all students. We have a generic login that is explained when students first use the library. A different login is required when it comes to using our patient database; this is explained when students start.

Eduroam is now available for all students with the right accesses. We also now have a public Wi-Fi connection (the first 15 minutes are free, paid for at various rates thereafter).

Multifunctional copier for copying and printing - all charges are 5p.

Can students register for local NHS Athens?

Yes - students will need to do this themselves via the NHS Evidence webpage
