MBA 21-22: Group Presentation Assignment: Case B: Rio Tinto

Case B

B – Rio Tinto

The environmental and social impact of Rio Tinto's mining operations have been the subject of much recent controversy, including allegations of sexual harassment and strikes for better employee benefits as well as protests against new mining sites, and public spats with key stakeholders. Following the destruction of indigenoous cultural sites, and artefacts, combined with delays and cost overruns at Rio Tinto's mining operations, risk exposure has increased.  The previous leadership has recently stepped down amid accusations of having built an organisation rife with dysfunctional organisational structures and governance, an unhealthy culture, and failing operational processes. Rio TInto's attempts at decarbonisation and efforts to rebuild relations with stakeholders are yet to bear fruit, and the company's share price has come under pressure. You are advising new CEO Jakob Stausholm on how to address the operational, organisational, and accounting challenges related to Rio Tinto's mining operations.
