MBA 21-22: Group Presentation Assignment: Case A: Danone

Case A

A – Danone

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated several trends in the food sector, especially relating to 'food sovereignty' and the resilience and sustainability of food supply chains.  Danone has not been able to capitalise on those trends as much as competitors, and increasing commodity prices and production costs are affecting the company's operational margins. In addition, Danone has recently come under scrutiny for its focus on purpose as an 'Enterprise a' Mission'. Reorganisation efforts, changes to the product portfolio, and the transformation of operations in the Local First project, and announced lay-offs are yet to have their desired effect, and Danone's financial performance is lagging competitors. This has led to the departure of former CEO Emmanuel Faber and most of the board. You are advising recently hired CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique on how to address the operational, organisational, and accounting challenges related to the tensions between profit and purpose that Danone is experiencing.
