This guide is designed to help Saïd Business School faculty understand the requirements for publishing, Open Access and the REF.
All Oxford authors should note Research England policy and ‘Act on Acceptance’: to be eligible for submission to REF 2021, the accepted manuscript of articles and conference papers submitted from 1 April 2016 must be uploaded to an institutional or subject repository within 3 months of acceptance, and made open access within a specified timeframe. 1. Choose an appropriate journal.
2. Check the terms in your publishing contract and know your rights. Are you allowed to share your work? Do they have a take-down policy (requiring you to remove any previous versions from public websites)? Check Sherpa/Romeo for broad policies.
3. Decide on Gold or Green Open Access. Consider whether you will need to pay an APC (article processing charge).
4. Consider whether you need to store your research data securely - do you have a Research Data Management plan?
5. Let your area administrator know as soon as you've had a paper accepted - they can add the details to the necessary places and ensure that you comply with the University's Act on Acceptance policy. Most importantly, they will add a reference in Symplectic, which populates ORA, the Oxford Research Archive. This also ensures that your faculty webpage is populated with your most recent research.
6. Email Susannah Cronin (Susannah.email@example.com) if you have any research-related news to share or any questions about communicating your research.
7. Once your paper has been published, make sure to update your area administrator with the publication date, DOI, etc.
