A new version of RefWorks has recently been launched by the developers, Proquest. This new version will run alongside the existing version of RefWorks (now referred to as “Legacy RefWorks”) until January 2019. Although both versions are now available, currently it is not possible to edit documents which have previously been edited in Legacy RefWorks in new RefWorks.
We strongly recommend that existing RefWorks users at Oxford delay moving to the new version of RefWorks for the time being. This is because:
We will let you know once these issues have been resolved and at that time will advise you on options for moving to new RefWorks. At that time we will provide support for those moving to new Refworks including instructions and training on migrating your references.
New RefWorks has a number of attractive new features including:
At the moment we are recommending that existing RefWorks users at Oxford University delay moving to new RefWorks due to technical issues (and in particular because it is not possible to edit documents in new RefWorks if they have previously been used with Legacy RefWorks).
Once these issues are fixed we will post an announcement on these pages and also contact Oxford users by email. At that time we will advise you on options for moving to new RefWorks. We will also provide support for those moving to new RefWorks including instructions and training on migrating your references.
At the moment it is anticipated that the technical issues will be resolved towards the end of quarter 1 of 2017 at the earliest. However, it is possible that this date may be put back. Once the issues are resolved we will contact you to advise you that it now okay to move to the new version. However, you will not need to move to new RefWorks immediately if you do not want to as Legacy RefWorks will remain available until at least January 2018.
You will need to import your existing references into the new version of RefWorks. We will provide instructions on how to do this and drop in sessions for anyone who would like help.
Once the technical issues with new RefWorks are resolved, Bodleian Libraries will provide support materials on migrating to new RefWorks and training sessions on the new interface for those who would find them useful.
