Hello, New Students!
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to LMH Library. As a member of LMH, you have access to our library 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, unlike the central Bodleian and departmental libraries (which are only open during staffed hours). You’re also allowed to borrow more books from us than most other libraries, for generous loan periods. We particularly welcome new book suggestions – which we normally buy more quickly than any of the central libraries.
Normally you would have a tour of the library in Freshers’ Week, where we would explain how to use the library, how to use the online catalogue, and show you where the books for your subject are. Of course, that’s not really possible in the pandemic! Instead, we’ve made three short videos that should give you all the information you need.

LMH Library Guide 2020 is the main guide to using the library: it tells you how many book you’re allowed to borrow for how long, how to use the self-service machine to borrow and return books, and the coronavirus measures we’ve put in place. It also features a lot of cat photos!
LMH Library Catalogue 2020 goes in-depth into how to use the catalogue (SOLO) to search for books – it’s a slightly odd system, and this should explain the peculiarities! SOLO is used by all Oxford libraries, so this will aid you in using LMH Library as well as the Bodleian or departmental libraries.
LMH Library Tour 2020 is a walk around the physical library space, showing you where the books for your subject are, as well as things like the study skills section, photocopier/printer, entrances and exits, the self-service machine, and our offices.
The Bodleian has also made a video, introducing you to their central library services.
LMH Library is open to college members via fob access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
LMH Library is open to non-LMH visitors by appointment during staffed hours, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. We are trying to limit external visitors as much as possible, during the pandemic.
