Papers allows Apple Mac users to save and organise references from Scopus. To connect to Scopus from Papers, you need your institution's Scopus Account ID in order to allow authentication.
Oxford University's Scopus Account ID can be found on this secure web page. Log in with your Oxford Single Sign-On and scroll down the list of databases and passwords.
Reference management software allows you to create your own personal database of references for papers, reviews and other documents. This means you can safely store, search and organise your references. When writing your paper you can automatically insert your citations in the desired format and create your bibliography at the click of a button.
The University makes the RefWorks and EndNote Web packages available free of charge to university members. You can buy the full EndNote package at a discounted rate from the IT Services shop. Several other packages can be freely downloaded from the internet. These include Mendeley and Zotero, which provide free basic accounts, although these are limited in the storage space available. If you are using LaTeX to process documents containing large amounts of mathematical formulae and expressions, you may find BibTeX a useful resource. Specifications and features of the major packages are listed in these comparison tables.
Both the Bodleian Libraries and IT Services run courses every term from basic to advanced level. See the Training tab of this guide for more information. If you can't attend a course, you can contact the library for one-to-one assistance. There's also plenty of material online. See the box below for some quick help guides.
These documents provide quick 'how to' guides to help get you started with several different reference management packages.
