Oxford University students can still access our subscription databases, e-journals and e-books when outside the University network: go to the SOLO home page and Sign in with your Oxford Single Sign-On username and password (as for WebLearn or your Oxford email account).
A few library resources don't use Single Sign-On and only offer remote access via a VPN (Virtual Private Network). See the IT webpages to find out about VPN. You need to register with IT Services from a computer on the University network.
For further information, see the Bodleian Libraries' remote access guide.
The Radcliffe Science Library has networked computers in all reading rooms, and in the Entrance Hall. Computer desktops are set up for quick access to:
You need to log on using your Library password.
You can save files to the desktop, but are advised to save work to a USB stick as PCs will log out after 10 minutes of inactivity, deleting files saved during that session. USB sticks are on sale at the Enquiry Desk.
The RSL also has a few computers which you don't need to log on to, but these only provide access to SOLO and resources which do not require a subscription, so most e-journals and databases are not available.
Most of the RSL building has WiFi. You can use your laptop in all the reading rooms and in social areas (the lounge and the café with vending machines). Select "Bodleian-Libraries" from the list of wireless networks. Open a web browser. You will see a log-in page. Log in with your University card barcode number and password.
You can also borrow a laptop lock if you are moving around the library or popping out for a break. Ask at the main Enquiry Desk.
