Training at the RSL

The Bodleian Libraries, the RSL and IT Services provide a range of training on topics from how to find material in the library to the use of statistics software packages. You can always find the latest training information under the 'Training' menu on the RSL Website.

Making the Most of the RSL

If you are new to Oxford or simply in need of a refresher on how best to use our resources, please book to attend one of our regular training sessions. These 1-hour sessions take place every week as follows:

  • Monday morning: 9.30 – 10.30 a.m. (except on Bank Holidays)
  • Thursday afternoon: 2.15 – 3.15 p.m.

These are general sessions which provide an introduction to the Bodleian Libraries, the use of the On-line Catalogue and the Automated Stack Request system and Electronic Resources available in Oxford.

Bodleian iSkills

Bodleian iSkills are a varied series of training courses which run throughout each term. Topics covered include -

  • Reference management.
  • Using bibliographic and abstract databases.
  • Using the library catalogue.
  • Accessing e-books and journals.
  • Citations and Bibliometrics.
  • Tools for finding journals, maps, theses, conference proceedings and other types of documents.

IT Services

ITS provide a wide range of courses throughout the year covering the use of software packages, operating systems, programming and research and reference management tools. Full details of courses and the booking procedure can be found on the IT Learning Programme Website.

On-line Resources

Engage is an interactive website that provides information and training on aspects of the research process in Biosciences. It covers topics such as literature searching, using statistics and writing up and presenting results.
