Why register through ORCID at Oxford instead of the ORCID website?
If you register direct at ORCID.org you enter your details manually, so anyone can claim to be employed at the University of Oxford. But if you create (or link) your ORCID iD through the (Single Sign On) authenticated ORCID at Oxford service, the ‘source’ of the 'Employment' information displays as ‘University of Oxford’ rather than you.
Why should I connect my existing ORCID to Oxford?
Benefit to you: ORCID at Oxford gives you ‘University of Oxford’ verified affiliation. It will also save you time and effort as it increasingly provides automated linkages between publisher and funder and University systems.
Benefit to the University: efficient and accurate reporting for the benefit of all involved in research at Oxford.
NOTE: You'll need to delete your manually entered affiliation (Employment) first if you want the verified affiliation to display. 'Employment' needs to be blank to enable verification.
'I already have an ORCID. I entered my Employment details manually and I would like my verified Oxford employment to display instead.'
Verified affiliation (Employment) will not overwrite manually entered information on your ORCID account.
If you don’t already have an Oxford ORCID: delete the manually entered Employment on your ORCID account then go to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/orcid and follow the instructions to link an existing ORCID
If you have an Oxford ORCID: (i) go to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk and follow the instructions to unlink your ORCID at Oxford. (ii) Go to your ORCID account and delete the manually entered Employment. (iii) Go back to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk and follow the instructions to link an existing ORCID.
