Students should seek advice from their thesis supervisors and also the graduate studies assistants in their area:
The Research Councils UK "expect that a full text version of an RCUK-funded student's thesis should be available no longer than 12 months following award of the doctorate (leave to supplicate being granted)".
Please check the policy conditions if you are in receipt of a funding grant and advise us as to whether the correct embargo length has been attributed to your work, you may wish to discuss this with your department graduate studies contact or Subject Librarian. Further information can be found here: RCUK Open access policy & RCUK T&Cs for training grants. If we do not hear differently from you the one year embargo will remain and your thesis file will be released into the public domain via ORA after this period has lapsed.
* There are seven Research Councils as part of RCUK:
Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)**
Medical Research Council (MRC)
Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)
If you are in receipt of funding please ensure you have provided ORA with the funding body name and grant numbers.
Alternatively you may wish to make your thesis file available immediately, waiving an embargo period to your work.
Oxford University Research Archive (ORA) is an institutional repository for the University of Oxford and is home to the scholarly output of its research members. It holds publications, theses and research data.
