Single Sign-on

To deposit items, you will need to use your WebAuth (aka Oxford Single-Sign-On, Herald, WebLearn) username and password. For details see https://webauth.ox.ac.uk/

Advice for departments wishing to deposit Taught Master dissertations

Current students

Current students who have been granted leave to supplicate and who are following any of these Oxford programmes are required to deposit their final approved thesis in ORA:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.)
  • Master of Letters (M.Litt.)
  • Master of Science by Research (M.Sc. by Research)

Additionally, the following degrees at the University of Oxford are eligible for and may deposit ORA:

  • Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
  • Master of Studies (M.St.) in Legal Research/Socio-Legal Research
  • Doctor of Medicine (D.M.)
  • Doctor of Clinical Psychology (D.Clin.Psych.) 
  • Batchelor of Philosophy (B.Phil.) (Philosophy)

These programmes are all classed as research degrees by the University of Oxford

For Taught Masters students

Some Departments or Faculties might choose to provide online access to all or a selection of taught masters dissertations produced by its students. Making your dissertation available in this way increases its visibility and makes Oxford research available for the benefit of society.

Taught master dissertations are often submitted to ORA by a member of the Department or Faculty staff, and you should be provided with some advice by the Department/Faculty if this is the case. PG masters students are not eligible to deposit dissertations in ORA.

Oxford Alumni

Oxford alumni holding an Oxford postgradute degree by research are eligible to deposit a digital copy of their thesis in ORA. The conditions for deposit are:

  • the degree is classed as a degree by research by the University of Oxford
      • Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.)
      • Master of Letters (M.Litt.)
      • Master of Science by Research (M.Sc. by Research)
  • a print copy of the thesis must have been deposited in the Bodleian Library
  • the digital copy should be the final approved version as it was passed by the examiners with all corrections included
  • a digital version is submitted (ORA cannot offer a digitisation service at the present time)
  • inclusion of the thesis in ORA will not infringe copyright or any other rights including those rights of material included in the thesis where copyright is held by a third party
  • the author agrees to the ORA deposit statement for theses
  • any embargoes on access are approved by the supervisor or other appropriate person in the department which granted leave to supplicate

ORA reserves the right to refuse any item if any of these conditions are not met or in other exceptional circumstances.

If your Oxford username and password has expired, you should use the link https://thesis.ora.ox.ac.uk/users/sign_in to deposit your thesis in ORA. You will need a special username and password for to submit via this URL. To obtain a password contact ora@bodleian.ox.ac.uk

Oxford staff/researchers

Any member of the University of Oxford who holds a postgraduate degree by research granted by Oxford University is eligible to deposit their thesis in ORA.

The conditions for deposit are that:

  • the degree is classed as a degree by research
  • the digital copy should be the final approved version as it was passed by the examiners with all corrections included
  • a digital version is submitted (ORA cannot offer a digitisation service at the present time)
  • inclusion of the thesis in ORA will not infringe copyright or any other rights including those rights of material included in the thesis where copyright is held by a third party
  • the author agrees to the ORA deposit statement for theses

The Oxford eThesis collection is for awards granted by the University of Oxford. Authors who wish to deposit theses awarded as part of a degree at an institution other than Oxford may like to find out if that institution has a repository in which they can deposit their thesis

Members of Oxford staff who have been awarded the DipLATHE (Oxford Learning Institute) may deposit their portfolio in ORA (copyright permitting)

ORA reserves the right to refuse any item if any of these conditions are not met or in other exceptional circumstances.

Oxford University Research Archive (ORA) is an institutional repository for the University of Oxford and is home to the scholarly output of its research members. It holds publications, theses and research data.
