Almost all of the Codrington's printed books are catalogued onto SOLO.
Work is in progress to complete the cataloguing of some 19th and early 20th century collections on non-European, and naval history; as well as two smaller collections of early printed books. Material not yet catalogued onto SOLO is included in the old card catalogue in the library.
Law books are on the open shelves in the Anson Room, and on the first and second floor galleries of the Sublibrarian's room..
All other books are kept in closed stacks and readers must fill out a Book Request Slip. These may be found on the front desk, by the Anson Room computer, and on top of the old card catalogue in the Great Library. Once filled out the form should be handed to a librarian who will usually be able to fetch the book immediately.
NOTE: a prior appointment is required to consult early printed books, or other special collections materials; please email the library at least a week in advance.
Photocopying is carried out only by the library staff, and may be requested by filling out a form and handing it with the material to be copied to one of the librarians. It may not be possible to carry out the copying immediately, but it is usually ready for collection on the same day (depending on quantity and on the amout of copying requested). Copies are 10p per A4 page.
There are no facilities for scanning.
There are power sockets built into the desk light bases in the Anson room and in the main library.
Wi-fi allows access to the internet via a Eduroam or OWL and there is also a computer in the Anson room for searching SOLO and OxLIP. Please note: there is no computing support available.
NO photography of books or manusripts by readers is permitted.
Discreet photography of the Codrington Library is permitted on the following conditions:
