The Radcliffe Science Library has networked computers in all reading rooms and in the Entrance Hall. Computer desktops are set up for quick access to:
How do I log in to library computers (reader PCs)?
Enter the barcode of your University card and your password. If your first attempt is not successful or your password does not work, the Passwords web page provides further information and instructions on resetting your password.
How do I save files from a library computer?
Have a USB stick with you. USB sticks are also on sale at the Enquiry Desk. Alternatively, files can be saved to the desktop, and then be attached to an email.
How can I connect my laptop in the Library?
Most of the RSL building has WiFi. You can use your laptop in all the reading rooms and in social areas (the lounge and the café with vending machines). Select Bodleian-Libraries from the list of wireless networks. Open a web browser. You will see a log-in page. Log in with your University card barcode number and password. You can also borrow a laptop lock if you are moving around the library or popping out for a break. Ask at the main Enquiry Desk.
For additional information, see Using your laptop or mobile device in the Library.
How can I access library resources outside the University network?
Oxford University students holding a University card with a dark blue stripe can still access all of our subscription databases, e-journals and e-books when outside the University network. A quick route to all our resources is through SOLO. Go to the SOLO home page and sign in with your Oxford Single Sign-On username and password (as for WebLearn or your Oxford email account). The Sign In feature is located at the top right corner of the page.
External readers holding a University card with a stripe other than dark blue are entitled to use most electronic resources within the Bodleian Libraries, but not remotely. See Getting a reader's card for information on types of cards and access. Readers who have affiliations to other academic institutions may be able to obtain off-campus access by arrangement with their home institution.
See the Bodleian Libraries off-site access guide for additional information.
You can use your own laptop in the Radcliffe Science Library, where many desks have power sockets and network connections.
To use your laptop on the RSL network using a plug-in connection, simply connect it (using a standard ethernet/data cable) to any network socket, open a web browser and follow the instructions, using your Library password to log on. The Library has a few ethernet cables for loan.
It is up to you to ensure that your laptop is correctly configured to use the network and that all relevant patches and updates for your machine have been applied. Full details of the necessary configuration are available on the Bodleian Library's Using your laptop or mobile device in the Library page.
